My name is Ms. Njoki.

I am Kenyan born and raised, but Texas has been my home for almost 20 years. I am a mom to two incredible girls aged 9 and 6.

For the last 15 years of my professional career, I’ve been a Project Management Professional, Communication Specialist, and a Conflict Management Trainer. During that time, I have worked with small teams to develop curricula, and lead trainings in Peacebuilding and Conflict Management for cross-cultural groups in East and Central Africa, and Cultural Awareness and Understanding for African refugee communities living in Dallas, TX; and to develop Peer Mediation and Conflict Resolution guides for use by Middle School-aged students in Kenya.

Over the last 3 years, I have taught English as a Second Language to elementary-aged students in China through an online learning platform. During that time, I also worked with a non-profit organization in Dallas, TX, that partners with universities and local companies to provide training and mentor opportunities in Science Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics, to elementary, middle, and high-school students from underserved and under-represented schools in Dallas/Fort Worth. My project management role included working with Middle and High-School volunteers on events, hackathons, and workshops, as well as facilitating group discussions, brainstorming and retrospective sessions with volunteer and participating students.

On a personal note, I love to gather with close family friends and enjoy good food, deep conversations, and loud laughter. My girls have food allergies, so one of my joys in the last few years has been finding, modifying, and creating recipes for us to cook and enjoy as a family. I enjoy reading, and book-club discussions; I love art, writing, and crafting; and I take an immense amount of pleasure in sand sculpting whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I am thrilled to be taking this journey with Woke Homeschoolers! My goal coming into this role is to create an engaging space that nurtures curiosity, encourages discussion, values questions, and challenges learners to think beyond what they already know. I want each of my students to feel seen and heard; and I want them to know that they matter, their voice matters, and their learning journey matters.

I look forward to sharing this learning experience with your learners.
