Summer session - June 5 thru August 3
Break - July 3-7
First LIVE Class - Monday, June 5, 2023.
LIVE Class Day/Time: Mondays 2:00pm CT
Cost: $200
Students will read and study a range of multicultural storytelling and texts to develop their creative writing skills, experiment with new techniques, and grow in confidence as writers. Students will be expected to write (and hopefully share!) at least one piece each week with the goal of developing a small portfolio of work. To debunk the myth that there are "literary masters" we won't focus on any works within the "canon." Students will instead be encouraged to draw inspiration from writers of color, women, queer, and differently-abled writers; and also be invited to bring in writers they admire for us all to learn from and be inspired by in our writing.
Tools needed for this class include (but are not limited to):
1) Writing notebook (putting pen/pencil is important for the creative process vs. typing)
Instructor: Bunmi Ishola works full-time as a children’s book editor. She also is an occasional podcast host and has had the pleasure of facilitating the Woke Homeschooling World History book clubs. Prior to working in publishing, Bunmi worked in newspapers and magazines, and as a middle school social studies and English teacher.
